My Two-Month Experience using Amazon's AMP

The Amp app has been deprecated. My short, but valuable journey with AMP as "DJ Kazerific" has come to an end on 31-OCT-2023 and this post is my final farewell. I diligently hosted a total of nine shows once a week for my AMP shows, "Kazerific," which focused on my personal music inspirations and the "All Rounders at SM Entertainment" show, which focused on highlighting the music of SM artists. I had an incredible journey on this app, which forced me into a commitment whether or not I had listeners or up to six listeners, which is my personal high amount on a show (not including myself because that is my husband's favorite question). I wanted to write about my experience even though the shows looked easy to create every week, but it was not easy. https://www.onamp.com/ no longer exists and is seemingly wiped off the internet. AMP is owned by Amazon.com, Inc. and was launched in March 2022 to allow creators to host their own talk or music show. Listen...

Kazerific Show #9 (FINAL)

 On Amp - What's up?

Welcome to the Kazerific radio show where you can listen to DJ Kazerific live on AMP with my last show concluding as AMP has announced the closure of its service by the end of this month.

Unfortunately, AMP announced this month that AMP is closing down by 31-OCT-2023.

I will share my last week's inspiration of K-pop, J-pop, Canto-pop, pop and beyond.

Since my father had a bad accident was in the hospital this past week, I did not have much inspiration to do this show. However, I tried to fit in the songs that I thought would fit my last show.

Below are songs that I have played on the Kazerific show.

Super Junior - Asian Freak Show (Live)

This is to start off my Halloween/Last Show. Honestly, I thought my last week was like a circus with my father in the hospital due to a bad accident. I almost didn't want to do this last show.

NCT Dream - Yogurt Shake

I had to go back to this song because I will always remember starting off my time on AMP by playing this song. Before this show, I have played 97 songs, just short of a 100 on AMP.

Riize - Talk Saxy

Riize has released their new single album, "Talk Saxy" on 28-OCT-2023. I'm grateful that Amazon has this song available. Honestly, I rather them play a real saxophone sound instead of a synthetic saxophone sound. The play on words of the title reminds me of Amber Liu's "Shake that Brass" type song.

MC Jin, Hanjin - Happiness

I definitely wanted to play a MC Jin song before I left. He has so many good songs, but only a few songs listed on AMP. He participated in the "Rap of China" Season 6 show this year. I listened to his "过山车" (Rollercoaster) song on the show recently and randomly and it was really good. He rapped both in Mandarin and Cantonese. He is somebody who gives people like me who are ABCs hope that we can be multilingual too.

Regarding the Happiness song, I feel so much better when I listen to this song. It's sung/rapped in both Cantonese and Mandarin. Hanjin's voice is pure bliss. It's meant to be sung in a raw way so even though I heard MC Jin sing slightly out of tune, I feel it was meant to be that way and authentic.

If you are interested in the Rollercoast song I talked about, please also see the video below.

Wendy Ip - Just Wendy 2003

I will show a newer version of this song. Back when I was a student, I was looking for Asian American artists and there weren't that many out there. I found Wendy Ip and thought this song especially touched me, which is a song released back in 2001. It is about wanting to be somebody else, but finding out that she was just herself in the end.

Leo Ku - Huan Le Jin Xiao 歡樂今宵 (This Enjoyable Night)

I had previously reviewed this song on my blog, Wehaiyo!. However, this song hit me out of the blue. Two weeks ago, I was finished with work and I got into my car and started driving and randomly started thinking about this song. How sad since this is a bittersweet song about a couple who spent a night together, but now is too afraid to continue a romantic relationship.

LeeHi - Only

This is the absolutely my favorite song from LeeHi. If I don't play this song now, I will never play this song on AMP. I think the song speaks for itself.

It is such a romantic song.

BTS - Lie

Ever since Enhypen's Niki covered this dance, I was very curious about this song. It was so dark, but very interesting. The song always felt so short and I feel like I need to always listen to it 2-3 times before I am satisfied. I'm the type of person who normally likes to put songs on repeat so if I do, it means I really like the song. The song, performed and sung by Jimin, shows Jimin in a trap of being manipulated by somebody. It sounds so dark and haunting that it's a great Halloween song pick. The minor third chords give the song a fantasy feeling, but still haunting.

Enhypen - Bills

This song kept playing over and over in my mind since the Enhypen concert. This song is about somebody who broke up with his or her significant other and worried about the finances of it. I have never heard of song in which a person is worried about finances after breaking up with someone. The song becomes addicting in my head.

BTS - Serendipity

I finished the BTS book. The book is very detailed about their song and album releases, but had little details about their life and the rest of their careers besides the music. This song seems soothing. I love Jimin's high notes.

I also recommend their other song on the album, "Singularity" sung by V.

IVE - Wave
I heard this Japanese song from another AMP show and really liked it. I have been playing a lot of songs with the "Wave" word in it. The W-A-V-E part is so catchy.

NCT Dream - Life is Still Going On
Again, I wish everyone the best going forward without AMP. Whether you are going to Stationhead or somewhere else, I wish you all the best and let the music heal us all. Thank you for joining me on my pop and Asian pop journey.

This song explains how I feel that no matter what happens in life, life is still going on. The music will continue on through other platforms.

BTS - Silver Spoon (뱁새 Baepsae)

This is another BTS song that talks about their struggles, especially in song in which more effort was required from them and the teachers who taught them have a better advantage in life. This is more of a rap describing society's problems.

Even BTS added an extra meaning to their name to mean "Beyond the Scene."
ARMY, BTS' fandom, originally was an acronym for "Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth" and then the meaning changed to be an actual army.

There was an article this past week about how K-pop music has too many English words, but that trend has always been there, only Korea now has better pronunciation and grammar use of English. I think English is here to stay for K-pop.

NCT Dream - Never Goodbye
Last song of my show! I really enjoyed my time here on AMP and will write a follow up post on my experience on AMP. For me, this is never goodbye.

All songs have been added to my playlist on Youtube:

I hope you enjoy my show on AMP. Thank you for your support.

Have a Kazerific life!
