On Amp - What's up?
Welcome to the "All Rounders at SM Entertainment" show where you can listen to DJ Kazerific live on AMP. This is a specific radio show in dedication to SM Entertainment songs and their artists.
Tune in to hear all my favorite songs from SM Entertainment. I have a great line-up of songs this week and an overflowing selection of songs with the Halloween theme in mind.
Who isn't an all-rounder at SM? Artists who are all-rounders can proficiently sing, rap, and dance.
If you are unfamiliar with the SM Entertainment company, they are a major K-pop entertainment company in South Korea with contracted K-pop artists such as Kangta, BoA, TVXQ!, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, SHINee, Exo, Red Velvet, NCT, NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, 威神V(WayV), NCT New Team, SuperM, Aespa, GOT the Beat, Zhoumi, J-Min, Lee Dong Woo, Ginjo, Lucas, Imlay, Raiden, Riize, and more!
With SM Entertainment, you are guaranteed to enjoy high quality performances and talent.
Unfortunately, AMP announced this month that AMP is closing down by 31-OCT-2023.
My show ended up being one hour and 15 minutes long because this was my last show and I wanted to play all the songs that I wanted to highlight.
Normally, SM Entertainment is very big on Halloween parties in which their artists dress up for the event. However, due to the Halloween Crowd Crush tragedy last year, SM Entertainment had cancelled the entire event. It is likely that they will cancel this year's event as well due to criticism from the public. There was a bakery store who made innocent Halloween themed cookies and was criticized so much that the owner had to shut down their social media account. The cookies were for the kids and well I feel it is pretty extreme to wipe out any mention of Halloween, a popular festive event.
Below are some songs that I have played on the "All Rounders at SM Entertainment" show.
Super Junior - Asian Freak Show (Live)
I started with the Super Junior as a great intro song from their live concert. I like this so much that it would be a great into song for all my shows.
Red Velvet - 피카부 Peek-A-Boo
I mentioned that I would play classic Red Velvet songs for the month of October. Therefore, I am closing out October with my final Red Velvet songs. Peek-A-Boo sounds like a playful song and it seems from the music video that the girls are out to kill somebody.
SHINee - Lucifer
I'm picking classic SM songs now that obviously fit the Halloween theme. Lucifer is the classic song to highlight for the Halloween theme. However, SHINee is referring to a certain person who is locked on them and refusing to let go. In a way, that type of person becomes Lucifer.
WayV - Phantom
WayV's Phantom is another classic song in which a phantom is haunting them. Love is a phantom. How scary.
I would really like to play songs from WayV's second album, "On My Youth," but I'm afraid we ran out of time here on AMP. If you are interested in their music, please look out for their newest album coming soon.
Red Velvet RBB (Really Bad Boy)
I'm playing classic Red Velvet with - RBB (Really Bad Boy). The music video is set in a cemetery. While this song was released after Halloween at the time and did not do well in the music charts, I thought this song was really good and how (Irene and Wendy?) hit those high notes was amazing.
Super Junior - Devil
I am going to miss all my Super Junior songs that I play every week. It has been a real pleasure. Super Junior's devil is such a fun song that talks about the person playing a cold character and hard to get, which is torturing the singers. It is a danceable song.
Red Velvet - Bad Dracula
This seems to be a playful song. The girls sing about being a bad dracula when they should be scarier, but they can't get themselves to do it.
SHINee - Married To the Music
The music video for this song gives me the Red Velvet vibes with decapitation and other strange stuff going on. I think this song is worthy of playing on Halloween. I guess we love music so much that we can lose ourselves in it.
Taemin - Criminal
The song is about a criminal who hurts and tortures the singer. It seems most of the songs on my list is about somebody else torturing the singers. In this case, it seems to fit the Halloween theme or torturing others. I also like this song for its dark concept and sound.
If you like this song, then do not forget to check out Taemin's fourth mini album, "Guilty," which will be released on 31-OCT-2023. The concept also seems very dark where the teasers show Taemin allegedly shooting somebody.
Super Junior - Spy
Just like last week when I introduced a detective theme, I also liked the Super Junior Spy song. It is about them trying to chase their loveable spy, but can't quite catch her. This is also similar to devil, but in this case, the chase is thrilling. Super Junior songs are bouncy and bubbly and makes me happy. I love the trumpet sounds.
NCT 127 - Favorite (Vampire)
This is a classic NCT 127 song that I will play forever on Halloween. We have the vibe of a romantic vampire who has his one love forever and will love her even though it hurts. It is a love that they would never regret. The whistle melody in the song is so nostalgic and eerie at the same time. I even hear the bat echo sounds in this song.
Girls' Generation - Run Devil Run
This is another classic song of chasing a guy away, calling him a devil. Girls Generation tried to bring this song to the USA with an English version, but ultimately, there was not enough promotion and the song never took flight. This could also be Girls' Generation's first dark concept since they usually sing positive, inspirational or songs of worry. It it through this period of time do they become more bold with a darker concept. The song is catchy and a song that gets played on repeat.
NCT 127 - Superhuman
NCT 127's "super human" theme works well for Halloween for those who want to play hero for a day. the song talks about imagining to be a hero, but then also letting the other person know that he or she is also the hero in the singer's life. In the end, we are all super human. I love all the harmonies, which is the SM trademark, in this song.
Girls' Generation - (소원을 말해 봐) Genie
If "Run Devil Run" was an iconic song for Girls' Generation, then this song is even more iconic for Girls' Generation. This song practically propelled Girls' Generation into super stardom after their hit song, "Gee." In this song, the girls ask their man to tell them what is their wish. They will be a genie and make it happen. You can imagine how many men fell for this song.
My daughter's name is 소원 (Sowon) and it pretty much inspired by the lyrics on this song, which is a name my husband picked. Initially, my baby was named "Wish," but ultimately the meaning of her name changed, but I will never forget that she was my wish.
SuperM - Tiger Inside
I tried to cover most of all SM Artists in this show. This song imagines one as a tiger in the jungle of the world. Bite them if you must. This song is pretty fierce and I love this song. Also, the lyrics allude to being more confident in life and take risks.
Exo - Monster
This song is asking the listener to allow the monster of a man into listener's life. The reinforced voices in the main chorus of declarations makes it a little bit scary, emotionally. In the end, I am not sure if it is a good thing to give into the monster. The song itself is excellent. The ending "creeping" lyrics is a bonus.
TVXQ! - 주문 Mirotic
While the song lyrics is not very haunting, the music video is very creepy with a woman stuck to a web and trying to control the members of TVXQ! Initially, the original lyrics of "I got you under my skin" was deemed to be inappropriate by the Commission of Youth Protection and the song was banned and rated over 19 years old in 2008. SM Entertainment changed the lyrics to "I got you under my sky," which has less impact. In the end SM Entertainment won in an appeal and the ruling was overturned four months after the ban. However, the changed lyrics is still played on TV rather than the original lyrics. I still love the original lyrics the most.
Exo - 늑대와 미녀 Wolf
I recommend the Chinese version as well. In general, Exo's Chinese version of songs aren't bad at all.
The story is about a wolf who fell in love with a human. I love how they howl in this song and the altering of the voices for the "saranghaeyo" (I love you). The vocals are really great and also has the classic SM Entertainment harmony-styled singing technique.
Who can forget the iconic "tree" pose at the beginning of their song?
Aespa - Black Mamba
I saved this song for last as Black Mamba was an awesome debut song of Aespa. It is also scary how even digital foes can scare us nowadays. I can't even say how many times my information was hacked this year. The chorus always surprised me when the Aespa girls dropped down to the ground for the dance choreography.
Strangely, I dreamt of a snake a few days ago biting me. This is a coincidence, right?
